Film and TV Studies
I explore and study film stills and character designs in order to improve both my design and drawing skills, as well as my ability to capture lighting and mood in a scene.
These first three studies I did using acrylic paint for Aragorn and Saruman, and watercolours for Radagast.
I didn't do any pencil sketch beforehand but instead layered the paint slowly and carefully while looking at a reference photo.
I did a lot of these digital sketches using only a smooth round brush in varying sizes. This technique allowed me to focus on the colours, lighting and composition instead of getting carried away trying to find suitably textured brushes for all the different areas.
